Most travellers with a Taiwan-issued card need not buy a transit card: a contactless Visa or Mastercard issued in Taiwan, or that card in Apple Pay or Google Pay, can pay directly at MRT gates and on buses. SimplyGo charges a SGD 0.60 administrative fee per day of use for a foreign-issued Mastercard or Visa; check the issuer for any other charges. JCB and UnionPay are not accepted. The Singapore Tourist Pass mainly suits people taking many rides in one day or without an accepted card. Fares, schedules and rules below were checked on the Changi Airport, SimplyGo and Public Transport Council (PTC) sites in September 2026.
At a glance: three ways to pay
| Method | Cost | Watch out for | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Taiwan-issued Visa/Mastercard or mobile wallet | Adult fare plus SGD 0.60 per day of use | No card purchase; JCB and UnionPay are not accepted | Most travellers |
| SimplyGo EZ-Link card | SGD 10, including SGD 5 travel value | SGD 5 non-refundable card cost; top up as needed | Travellers without an accepted bank card |
| Singapore Tourist Pass | 1–5 day passes: SGD 17–45 | Non-refundable; multi-day passes run on consecutive days | Many rides in one day |
Changi Airport to the city
First, identify your terminal
Changi Airport MRT station (CG2) directly connects only to T2 and T3. From T1, walk through the level-3 link bridge at Jewel to T2/T3, or take the free Skytrain, which runs 5:00–2:00 in both public and transit areas. T4 has no direct MRT link. Take the free shuttle from T4 Arrival Bus Lounge to T2 Arrival Pick-up Door 1. The direct shuttle runs about every 5 minutes from 6:00–24:00 and takes about 10 minutes. From 00:00–6:00, a T2–T3–T1/Jewel–T4 loop runs about every 19 minutes. Confirm your airline’s terminal with the airline.

Changi Airport MRT station CG2 directly connects to T2 and T3. T1 connects to T2/T3 through Jewel’s level-3 bridge or free Skytrain (5:00–2:00). T4 has no MRT link: take the free shuttle from T4 Arrival Bus Lounge to T2 Arrival Pick-up Door 1, about every 5 minutes from 6:00–24:00 with a roughly 10-minute journey; from 00:00–6:00, a loop runs about every 19 minutes. From CG2, the MRT passes Expo (CG1/DT35, transfer to the Downtown Line towards Bukit Panjang) and Tanah Merah (EW4, transfer to the East West Line towards Tuas Link via Bugis, City Hall and Raffles Place). First train from the airport: 5:31 Monday–Saturday, 5:59 Sundays and public holidays. Last connections: 23:18 towards Tuas Link, 00:06 towards Pasir Ris. Last trains back to the airport: 23:50 from Tanah Merah and 23:53 from Expo. Foreign-issued Visa and Mastercard payments add SGD 0.60 per day of use.
MRT: transfer at Tanah Merah or Expo
From CG2, ride to Tanah Merah (EW4) and transfer to the East West Line towards Tuas Link. For destinations on the Downtown Line, change at Expo (CG1/DT35) towards Bukit Panjang. The first train leaves at 5:31 Monday–Saturday and 5:59 on Sundays and public holidays. Last trains depend on direction: the connection towards Tuas Link (into the city) is at 23:18 daily; the connection towards Pasir Ris is at 00:06.
Bus
From T1–T3, board routes 24, 27, 34, 36, 53, 110 or 858 at the basement bus bays. At T4, routes 24, 34, 36 and 110 stop beside Car Park 4B; routes 27, 53 and 858 stop near SATS Inflight Catering Centre 1. Card fares use the same distance-based schedule as MRT. Have the exact fare if paying cash; no change is given.
Taxi and ride-hailing
Taxi stands are in the arrival areas of all terminals. Metered rides to the city take about 30 minutes and cost roughly SGD 25–45 according to the airport, before the surcharges below. For app rides, use Grab, Gojek, Zig, Tada, Ryde or Geolah and go to your terminal’s ride-hailing pick-up point.
| Surcharge | Time and amount |
|---|---|
| Airport surcharge | SGD 8 daily from 17:00–23:59; SGD 6 at other times |
| Midnight surcharge | 50% of metered fare daily from 00:00–5:59 |
| Peak-hour surcharge | 25% of metered fare: Monday–Friday 6:00–9:29 (excluding public holidays); weekends and public holidays 10:00–13:59; daily 17:00–23:59 |
Ground Transport Concierge (GTC) transfers
Each terminal has a 24-hour GTC counter in arrivals. A four-seater costs SGD 70 per trip and a six-seater SGD 75. Sembawang Shipyard, Jurong Island or Changi Airfreight Centre adds SGD 30; Tuas Mega shipyard or PSA Tuas port adds SGD 75.

Paying for MRT and buses: four things to know about Taiwan-issued cards
- Accepted cards: contactless American Express, Mastercard, NETS and Visa, plus cards in Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay and other supported wallets. Maestro/Cirrus debit cards and NETSPay are not accepted; JCB and UnionPay are not on the accepted list. Enable overseas payments on your card.
- Administrative fee: a foreign-issued Mastercard or Visa costs SGD 0.60 per day of use, and your issuing bank may add fees. The official page does not clearly state the fee treatment for a foreign Amex; check it before travel. Standard adult fares apply.
- Same card and same form: tapping in with the physical card and out with its mobile-wallet version can count as two separate journeys. Take the card out to tap it alone so another card is not charged.
- Pending charges: Visa, Amex and NETS are aggregated daily; Mastercard is aggregated after up to five days or once it reaches SGD 15. The total is sent to the issuing bank three days after aggregation. Link the card in the SimplyGo app to check individual fares; claims can be filed within 90 days.

Being able to tap on public transport does not mean every hawker stall accepts cards. Check the stall’s signs and carry some Singapore-dollar cash.

How fares are calculated
MRT, LRT and regular buses charge by distance. The table samples adult card fares effective from 27 December 2025. Use SimplyGo’s Travel Guide for the exact fare between your stops.
| Distance | Card fare | Weekday train entry before 7:45 |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 3.2 km | 128 cents (SGD 1.28) | 78 cents |
| 9.3–10.2 km | 186 cents (SGD 1.86) | 136 cents |
| 19.3–20.2 km | 227 cents (SGD 2.27) | 177 cents |
| Over 40.2 km | 257 cents (SGD 2.57) | 207 cents |
The morning discount requires entry into an MRT or LRT station before 7:45 on a weekday other than a public holiday; it does not apply to buses. Check SimplyGo for whether your bank-card payment qualifies. Transfers can combine into one fare: switch between MRT and bus or between buses within 45 minutes, or between separate MRT stations within 15 minutes. You can make at most five transfers, and the first and last boarding must be within two hours.
SimplyGo EZ-Link card and Singapore Tourist Pass
A SimplyGo EZ-Link card costs SGD 10 at an MRT ticket office: SGD 5 non-refundable card cost and SGD 5 travel value. A balance of at least SGD 5 is needed to enter. AXS machines stopped EZ-Link top-ups from 29 August 2026. Some ticket machines accept foreign bank cards for top-ups with a fee; carry Singapore-dollar cash or check the official guidance. The 1–5 day Tourist Passes cost SGD 17, 24, 29, 37 and 45 respectively. They allow unlimited MRT, LRT and regular bus rides. Validity starts with the first use and ends at the close of service that day; multi-day passes must be used on consecutive days. Sentosa Express, RWS8, express and other premium buses are excluded. Passes are non-refundable and revert to ordinary EZ-Link cards after expiry. Refund any stored balance at a ticket office before leaving; it cannot be returned to an overseas account after departure. The Changi T2 ticket office opens 8:00–21:00 and nearby machine 5:00–24:00; buy four- and five-day passes at station outlets.
Does the pass pay off?
With a foreign-issued Mastercard or Visa, one day's cost is the sum of fares plus SGD 0.60 per day. Even six trips at the maximum SGD 2.57 each would total SGD 16.02—less than the SGD 17 one-day pass. Trips of 20 km or less cost SGD 1.28–2.27, so you would need even more rides to break even, and transfer fares reduce the number of separately charged trips. A Tourist Pass mainly makes sense if you prefer not to track charges or have no accepted card.
Late-night and early arrivals, and the trip back to the airport
Late night and early morning
After MRT and buses stop, use a taxi, app ride or prebooked transfer. Boarding from 00:00–5:59 adds the midnight surcharge on top of the airport surcharge. Late arrivals at T4 can take the overnight terminal-loop shuttle to T2 about every 19 minutes. The morning train discount has the conditions described above. Sentosa Express is not covered by the Tourist Pass.

Taking the MRT back to the airport
On the East West Line, change at Tanah Merah for a Changi Airport train; on the Downtown Line, change at Expo. First airport-bound trains from Tanah Merah are 5:20 Monday–Saturday and 5:47 on Sundays and public holidays; from Expo they are 5:23 and 5:50. Last trains run daily at 23:50 from Tanah Merah and 23:53 from Expo. For T1, use the Jewel bridge or Skytrain; for T4, take the shuttle from T2 Arrival Pick-up Door 1 and alight at T4 Departure Door 4.

How to Choose Tokyo Transit Passes: Are Suica, Welcome Suica, the Tokyo Subway Ticket, and the JR Pass Worth It?
On a first Tokyo trip, start with an IC card and pay per ride (Welcome Suica has no deposit and is valid for 28 days). If you take four or more subway rides in a day, add a 72-hour Tokyo Subway Ticket for 2,000 yen; a JR Pass is never worthwhile if you stay in Tokyo and do not go to Kansai.
