Universal Studios Japan (USJ) is holding its 25th-anniversary celebration in 2026, and SUPER NINTENDO WORLD is entering its fifth year. With Halloween season beginning on 9/10, crowds will only increase. First-time visitors most often get stuck on three questions: which of the many ticket types to buy, whether to buy a Universal Express Pass, and how to enter SUPER NINTENDO WORLD. Using information verified on 2026/9/13 from USJ’s official Traditional Chinese website and an officially authorized ticketing website, this guide explains ticket prices, admission rules, opening hours, baggage restrictions, and transportation.

Here is the short version: before your trip, buy a dated one-day Studio Pass from an official ticketing website—adult tickets start at 8,400 yen and vary by date—and download the official APP. If you must enter SUPER NINTENDO WORLD and do not want to rely on luck, buy a Universal Express Pass that includes guaranteed area entry. Otherwise, arrive one hour before opening and use the APP to get an Area Timed Entry Ticket as soon as you enter the park. Remember these three rules to avoid a wasted trip: no suitcases, no outside food, and no re-entry.

Ticket Types and Prices: Studio Passes Require a Specified Admission Date from 2026/9

Studio Passes come in three types: one-day, 1.5-day, and two-day. The 1.5-day pass allows entry from 15:00 on the first day and a full day on the second day; the two-day pass must be used on two consecutive days. Prices vary by admission date. Starting prices verified on an officially authorized ticketing website on 2026/9/13 were 8,400 yen for an adult one-day pass, 13,600 yen for a 1.5-day pass, and 16,000 yen for a two-day pass. Prices are higher on weekends, holidays, and during events; check the official price calendar for child and senior prices. Child tickets are for ages 4 to 11; guests aged 12 or older need an adult ticket. From 2026/9/1, every Studio Pass purchase requires a specified admission date. The date can be changed afterward on the official website. The official ticketing website notes that certain ticket types purchased after 2026/7/1 for admission after 9/1 can be rescheduled. Except for Annual Passes, tickets do not permit re-entry. Tickets use QR Codes, which are scanned at admission; QR Codes on resold tickets will be invalidated.

Universal Express Passes: How Many Attractions, and Should Guaranteed SUPER NINTENDO WORLD Entry Be Included?

A Universal Express Pass is a separately purchased pass that shortens waits; it requires a Studio Pass and is valid only on its specified date. USJ’s current ticket lineup lists Pass 4, 5, 7, 8, and Premium. The numbered passes cover fixed bundles of 4, 5, 7, or 8 designated attractions; you cannot choose the attractions yourself. The official lineup lists starting prices of 6,800, 12,200, 14,100, and 15,500 yen respectively. Premium starts at 27,600 yen and shortens the wait once at each Express Pass-eligible attraction listed for the chosen dated product, not at every attraction in the park. These are lineup-wide starting prices; bundles with guaranteed SUPER NINTENDO WORLD entry may cost more. Check the dated product’s availability, attraction list, guaranteed-entry time, and actual price before buying. Premium Unlimited is a separate product; its repeat-use terms must not be assumed for standard Premium. Check whether the selected bundle for your visit date explicitly includes guaranteed entry to SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, its entry time, and its attraction list; Mario Kart alone is not the test. USJ lists ユニバーサル・エクスプレス・パス 4 ~トロッコ&ジュラシック・パーク~ with guaranteed area entry but with Mine Cart Madness, Yoshi’s Adventure, a Minion ride, and JAWS/Jurassic Park instead of Mario Kart. You can skip the APP area-entry ticket only if your pass explicitly guarantees entry. Some 8- and 5-attraction bundles also include Mine Cart Madness. Your pass will show a designated time for each timed attraction. Arrive within that window and show the complete QR Code screen at the Express entrance—a screenshot containing only the QR Code is not accepted. Attractions without designated times can be used anytime during operating hours. Most height restrictions are 122 or 132 cm, so check each child’s height before buying.

Standard starting prices: USJ ticket lineup, checked 2026/9/22. Halloween ticket: authorized seller, checked 2026/9/13. Prices vary by date, stock, and bundle; Express requires a separate Studio Pass.

Entering SUPER NINTENDO WORLD: Guaranteed Entry, Timed Entry, and Standby Entry Tickets

Buying a Studio Pass does not automatically let you enter SUPER NINTENDO WORLD. The official website states that entry requires an Area Entry Guarantee Pass or an Area Timed Entry Ticket / Standby Entry Ticket. A guarantee pass must be purchased in advance: it may be the guaranteed area entry included with a Universal Express Pass or a package such as the Halloween Horror Nights All-Night Pass. Area Timed Entry Tickets are free and obtained through the official APP after entering the park; each shows a designated entry time. Once they run out, the APP begins issuing Standby Entry Tickets by lottery. Only winners may enter at the designated time. Apply for a Standby Entry Ticket one hour before your desired entry time; issuance stops three hours before the park closes, and application order does not affect whether you win. From 2026/1/5, Area Timed Entry Tickets and Standby Entry Tickets can only be obtained through the official APP. The website also says that no ticket may be required depending on conditions that day, but you should not build your plan around that possibility.

  1. Before entering, register the Studio Pass QR Codes of everyone in your party in the APP. Register the whole group together so you can obtain tickets and enter together. If you enter the lottery separately, a winning ticket admits only the number of people listed on it.
  2. Open the APP and get an Area Timed Entry Ticket immediately after passing through the admission gate. The earlier you do it, the more time slots you can choose from. You can obtain one only once per day, and after getting one you cannot enter the lottery.
  3. Go to the area during your designated time slot and show the electronic ticket in the APP at the entrance. The official website notes that you may still need to wait on-site even after your time slot begins.
  4. After getting your Area Timed Entry Ticket, enjoy another area instead of waiting at the entrance to SUPER NINTENDO WORLD. The same party cannot obtain another ticket before its existing time slot ends.
  5. The APP must be updated to the latest version and requires iOS 17 or Android 9 or later. Deleting the APP after obtaining a ticket will invalidate it.

Inside are three rides: Mario Kart: Koopa’s Challenge, Yoshi’s Adventure, and Mine Cart Madness in Donkey Kong Country. A Power-Up Band lets you play Key Challenges by hitting Question Blocks and also serves as a souvenir. The fifth-anniversary celebration runs from 2026/3/18 to 2027/1/11, with Super Star decorations, limited-time greetings and parades, special food, and a light-up popcorn bucket.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and Other Areas: Planning Your Day

You can enter The Wizarding World of Harry Potter directly when no area-entry restriction is in place. If entry is restricted that day, a travel package or Express Pass with guaranteed area entry protects entry at its assigned time; check the day’s rules, as the guarantee is not always needed. Hogsmeade is just inside, with Hogwarts Castle farther ahead. Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey inside the castle is one of the park’s most popular attractions. The area also has Flight of the Hippogriff and the wand-selection show at Ollivanders. Elsewhere, Minion Park and Universal Wonderland suit young children; Hollywood has Hollywood Dream – The Ride, including the backward-facing Backdrop version; Jurassic Park has The Flying Dinosaur; Amity Village has JAWS; and WaterWorld is a scheduled show. The “Ultimate Autumn” Halloween season runs from 2026/9/10 to 11/8, with Halloween Horror Nights beginning on 9/11. Horror attractions and street events take place at night, so families with young children may feel more comfortable remaining in areas such as Minion Park and Universal Wonderland after dusk.

  1. Arrive at the entrance 60 to 90 minutes before opening. The official website says the park may open earlier than the published time, and security lines also take time. Published opening times for 2026/9 range from 8:00 to 9:00.
  2. After security, enter the park and immediately open the APP to obtain a SUPER NINTENDO WORLD Area Timed Entry Ticket. Express Pass holders should check the guaranteed entry time on their passes.
  3. Before your timed-entry slot, ride Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey or The Flying Dinosaur, as their queues are shortest in the morning.
  4. Eat lunch before 11:00. Park restaurants have long lines from 12 to 1 o’clock.
  5. Enter SUPER NINTENDO WORLD at your designated time: queue for Mario Kart first, Mine Cart Madness second, and Yoshi’s Adventure, which has the shortest wait, third. Save the Power-Up Band challenges for last.
  6. See WaterWorld or a street show in the evening. Hogwarts Castle is best photographed after dark.
  7. Buy souvenirs one hour before closing, as shops become too crowded near closing time. In 2026/9, closing times range from 21:00 to 22:00.

Left—ticket decision: first buy a dated Studio Pass; adult one-day passes start at 8,400 yen. Question one: must you enter SUPER NINTENDO WORLD without gambling on a timed-entry ticket? If yes, buy an Express Pass bundle with guaranteed area entry; check its listed attractions, entry time, and price for your date. Otherwise, question two: want shorter waits for popular attractions? If yes, buy an Express Pass bundle without guaranteed entry and use an APP timed-entry ticket for SUPER NINTENDO WORLD. If not, buy only a Studio Pass and use the official APP immediately after admission to get a timed-entry ticket, once per day; when they run out, tickets are issued by lottery. Right—suggested itinerary: reach the gate 60 to 90 minutes before opening; September (9): gates open from 8:00 to 9:00 and may open earlier. Clear security and store suitcases in lockers outside. Register everyone’s tickets in the APP and get a timed-entry ticket. While waiting, ride Forbidden Journey or The Flying Dinosaur. Eat lunch before 11 o’clock. Enter SUPER NINTENDO WORLD at your assigned time for Mario Kart, Mine Cart Madness, and Yoshi’s Adventure. See an evening show, photograph the castle at night, and buy souvenirs one hour before closing. September (9): gates close from 21:00 to 22:00.

Opening Hours, Rain, Security, Baggage, and Food Rules

Opening hours vary daily. For most days in 2026/9, the official website lists opening at 8:00, 8:30, or 9:00 and closing at 21:00, 21:30, or 22:00. Check the official operating-hours page again the day before your visit; the park may also open early without notice. Most attractions operate in rain, but outdoor roller coasters and shows may be suspended due to weather. Check the official “Temporary Closures of Shows and Attractions” page before leaving in the morning. Before admission, you must pass through a metal detector and X-ray scanner. Put items from your pockets into your bag; hold plastic drink bottles and refillable water bottles in your hands; raise the refillable water bottle above your head as you pass through the metal detector, then let staff inspect its contents. Prohibited items include suitcases and carts other than strollers, wheelchairs, and medical equipment for walking assistance; baggage measuring 40 cm wide × 59 cm long × 30 cm high or larger, which is too large for X-ray screening and should be stored in a locker; drinks in glass bottles, cans, cartons, or containers that cannot be completely closed, such as coffee cups, and alcohol; outside food, although you should ask staff about baby food and snacks for young children; tripods, monopods, and selfie sticks except foldable palm-sized models; knives; drones; and ordinary pets (assistance dogs are allowed). Resealable plastic drink bottles are allowed after security screening. Re-entry is not permitted, so once you leave through the gate you cannot return, except with an Annual Pass.
