November to December: Christmasland and New Year's Eve
Christmasland fills the squares around Banqiao Station (板橋車站). New Taipei has not published its 2026 programme, so dates may change. Last season ran 14 November to 28 December 2025 across Citizen Square, the station's front square, Wanping Park and Fuzhong Square, with lights from 17:30 to 23:00 and a five-minute main show every hour and half hour. Weekday evenings are calmer.

On 31 December the city's New Year's Eve party fills Taipei City Hall Plaza, and at midnight Taipei 101 fires its show. Details for 2026-27 are TBA. Last time about 200,000 people watched a six-minute display, and the MRT ran 42 hours nonstop, from 06:00 on 31 December to midnight on 1 January, except the Xiaobitan and Xinbeitou branches. The Maokong Gondola stayed open until 02:00, and rides were free entering Nanjing Sanmin (南京三民) or Taipei Arena (臺北小巨蛋) stations from 22:30 to 06:00.

Lunar New Year 2027 and the long weekends
The DGPA's official 2027 calendar gives a seven-day break from Thursday 4 to Wednesday 10 February; Lunar New Year's Eve is 5 February and New Year's Day 6 February. Trains and highways peak at both ends, and many family-run eateries and market stalls close for a few days around the Eve. Other long weekends: 25 to 27 December 2026, 1 to 3 January 2027 and 27 February to 1 March 2027. It is a holiday across much of Asia, so flights fill early.
Lantern season: Miaoli, Pingxi, Taipei and Kaohsiung
The national Taiwan Lantern Festival moves to Miaoli County in 2027. The Tourism Administration lists it from 20 February, Lantern Festival day, to 7 March, with the main areas planned in the Zhunan and Toufen sports parks; site plan TBA. Lantern Festival day is 11 days earlier than in 2026 (3 March), so city festivals may shift earlier too. Last season the Taipei Lantern Festival lit Ximen and the Expo Park near MRT Yuanshan (圓山) from 17:00 to 22:00, and Kaohsiung's ran along Love River Bay.
The Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival is run by New Taipei City; 2027 dates TBA on newtaipei.travel. Last season had two nights: 27 February at Pingxi Junior High School (平溪國中) and 3 March, Lantern Festival day, at Shifen Square (十分廣場). Shuttle buses ran from Taipei Zoo (木柵動物園), Ruifang Station (瑞芳車站), Keelung and Shuangxi stations, places in the mass release were booked online in advance, and the organisers asked everyone to use public transport.

Flowers, hot springs and what to wear
The Yangmingshan Flower Festival centres on the flower clock in Yangming Park: take the MRT to Jiantan (劍潭) and change to bus 260, 303 or Red 5, as parking is limited. Wuling Farm lies high in Taichung's mountains, and Alishan's season is March, when the forest railway runs cherry-blossom trains. The Tourism Administration's hot spring carnival runs 4 September 2026 to 30 June 2027 across the island, Taipei included.
